Treeplanting with Toronto Trillium Lions Club!

Saturday 27 April 2013

Today the RCLions attended the treeplanting event hosted by the City of Toronto. The Trees Across Toronto is a program that happens every year during April and aims to create self-sustaining native plant communities and to teach and encourage people to plant trees on private property. We joined forces with the Toronto Trillium Lions Club in this event as an effort to help contribute to our urban forest.

The whole gang!

The RCLions! Lions Will, Chad, Tina, Jeanne and Amy

Now get your hands dirty and start digging!

Treeplanting 101: Here, Chad shows Step One - Dig a hole!

Step Two - Place the tree into the hole

Step Three - Surround the tree with shrubs and pack it in, as demonstrated by Lion Amy

And Voila! Here's our lovely little tree! What should we name it?

President Aaron of the Toronto Trillium Lions Club gives us a brief speech about how trees play an important role in sustaining a healthy environment and what the treeplanting program means to Lions Club International. Did you know during 2011-2012, Lions have planted over 15 millions trees around the world? Way to go Lions!

Lions Jeanne and Tina give a very dramatic speech to the people of the city

It was a beautiful day to plant trees - over 4,500 native species have been planted! The Lions had a great time helping out in this event.
Proud to be a Lion!
